A musician since childhood
Waldo Weathers first stood on a club stage at the age of twelve – with the band New Birth. As a saxophonist he started out in rhythm and blues bands, but soon moved on to jazz and funk. In 1985 he was honoured by the Country Music Hall of Fame as the first African-American country sax player.
At the side of the greats
From 1979 to 1989, Waldo Weathers shared the stage with music greats Charley Pride and Johnnie Taylor. Together with Michael Jackson, he took part in the "Fairwell Soul Party" for the soul giant in Augusta. He played as a headliner on the MS Europa from 2005 to 2009, and from 2010 to 2011 he accompanied Phil Collins on stages across Germany.
From 1993 to 2008, Waldo Weathers was a member of the James Brown Band, playing several solos on Brown's albums as well as on the live DVD "Live at the House of Blues" during that time. He has also shared the stage with B.B. King, Al Green, Little Richard, Harriet Lewis and many others.
